BIO… Nancy Willis has called the Napa Valley home for 30 years. Her series of paintings and prints reflect the intimacy of domestic rituals and iconic motifs of daily life. Willis uses light and color to create narrative and evoke a strong sense of place through series about the bed, dining rituals, the chandelier and terrain. Her connection to community has been seen in two museum curatorial projects, NOURISH and Discrepancy/living between war and peace, and through teaching at Nimbus, Napa Valley College and the Culinary Institute of America. Willis holds an M.F.A. from San Francisco Art Institute and was recently awarded back-to-back ACNV grants for Conflict Zone. The project is an artistic collaboration with Yazidis from Northern Iraq, intended to bridge our two communities. Conflict Zone is Willis’ artistic response to how violence against women is used as a strategy of war.
