Hidden in the historical accounts of communities of color, workers, and immigrants in American society is the story of Mexico’s men and women who experienced the temporary contract worker program known as the Bracero Program. “Harvest of Loneliness” shows how several million men, in one of the largest state-managed migrations in history, were imported from 1942 to 1964 to work as cheap, controlled, and disposable workers. It also centers on the voices of the wives and families who were left behind as an untold number of villages in Mexico were virtually emptied of men. Unfortunately, workers in the fields are still fighting for basic human rights.
Organized by Joshua Ryan Murillo, a member of the Napa Valley College community and descendant of a Bracero, with sponsorship from the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
