Job Summary: As a barista, you will prepare and serve specialty coffee, other beverages, and select food items for customers while creating community. We are looking for baristas to provide a memorable experience to each and every person who visits the store, to create quality beverages consistently, and to share their knowledge and passion for the coffee (and even books!) we serve. Barista Job Duties
Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, such as coffee, signature beverages, and tea, to patrons; correctly customizes orders as requested.
Describe product details to customers
Receive and process customer payments.
Serve prepared foods and baked goods including pastries, and grab-and-go fridge items
Ensure customer service stations are properly stocked with paper products or beverage preparation items
Clean and sanitize all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work areas
Clean and sanitize service and seating areas
Ensure proper functioning of freezers, refrigerators, and heating by routinely checking temperatures in that equipment
Stock supplies or retail products; inventory, order, or receive products as directed.
Commit to providing consistent quality beverages and food
Commit to providing a stellar customer experience
Maintain a clean environment including the cleaning of the back of house, bar area, front of house seating area, and patio to contribute to a healthy environment for customers and employees
Properly handle and maintain all coffee and food equipment
Contribute to store profitability by following cash handling and cash register policies and procedures
Follow all company policies, procedures, processes, and share ideas to make the space better
Open and/or close the cafe, depending on your shift
Perform other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Retail and/or customer service experience highly preferred
Must successfully complete training in food preparation, food service skills, and customer service procedures
Must maintain current state issued Food Handler Card
Coffee experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
Must be available to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation:
$17-18.50/hr commensurate with experience
Paid time off, paid sick time. Staff discounts at the cafe and bookstore. Full-time employees (32 hours or more) receive a monthly healthcare stipend.
