Earth Action Initiative is a collective of Berkeley graduate students and community members, committed to catalyze a grassroots movement to foster personal and collective responses to an ever-changing planet. We aim to nurture a community wherein climate action is integrated into our everyday lives and help diminish the barriers to action for others. To execute this vision, we organize a variety of events – including an annual conference – to build community, leverage existing efforts and inspire new initiatives.
The Earth Action Art Show is an extension of this mission. Raw climate data, research papers, scientific jargon and non-sensical political banter on climate change can be overwhelming and difficult to internalize. We believe art may provide a different and more intimate experience to connect with issues facing our climate. We hope that it will inspire action in a way data cannot. With all that said, if you have climate or environmentally themed art, we would love to showcase it!
The focus of Earth Action Initiative is direct action, and consequently we envisioned the art show as an opportunity to raise funds for mini action grants. These will be awarded in our local community through a proposal process decided upon by the Earth Action Initiative Organizing Committee.
