The St. Helena Historical Society is seeking an executive director to guide the organization into a
publicly accessible exhibition, education, and research Heritage Center.

We are seeking someone who can oversee the daily operations of the organization, such as:
billings, mail routing, scheduling, board meetings (agendas and minutes), file maintenance,
office management, building maintenance, contracts, membership campaigns, volunteer
recruitment (training and oversight), newsletter organization and distribution, etc.
Because we are in a transition period from being an organization that has not been available to
the public except through our web site and social media to a full-fledged center, open to the
public, the requirements of the position will develop over time.
Requirements for the position include:

 Ability to install exhibits, plan and execute programming, and organize and
oversee development plans.
 Computer skills to maintain the membership database, manage
cataloging/scanning of photographs and artifacts, distribution of electronic
messaging including social media and membership communication, manage the
web site, etc.
 Ability to work with board members and committees to oversee collection
development, research, requests for documents/photographs, special events
and fundraising.
 Knowledge of museum quality preservation and storage requirements.
 Personnel management skills to work with the board, board committees,
volunteers, contractors and vendors.
 Ability to write grants for specific projects and operations.

 Vision to provide access to the collection with a public access catalog or other
means.
 Organizational skills for books, documents, photographs, and artifacts.

Desired qualifications: Curatorial experience with museums or galleries
Terms of employment: Beginning October 1 or before, if available, begin with an up to 19-hour
workweek with the ability to expand as the Heritage Center develops. Salary negotiable
depending on skills, abilities, and the organizational needs.
