Position Title: Music Instructor
Location: The Salvation Army
Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
Suisun City, CA
Reports to: Music & Worship Arts Manager
FLSA Status: Part-Time

BASIC PURPOSE

Music Instructors are responsible for providing quality individual and/or group instruction on the instruments specified by the Music & Worship Arts Manager. They are expected to plan lessons for their students and follow provided curriculums where applicable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach group and/or individual music lessons and sustain student progress.
Develop, teach, and execute class plans for individual and group classes for all ages, to include very young children.
Explain & demonstrate performance techniques on the specified instrument.
Prepare students for performances, recital, and assessments.
Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions, interact and feedback.
Advise students on academic and curricula advancement issues.
Maintain student attendance records and other required records.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Demonstrate strong communication skills, be out-going, and enjoy building relationships with a variety of members working to meet their music goals.
May teach a variety of classes based on experience and specialties.
Ensure that music instruction areas are always presentable. Assist with cleaning and maintenance.
Maintain accurate records for classes.
Alert Music & Worship Arts Manager of needed inventory and supplies.
Follow The Salvation Army policies and procedures.
Provide assistance to any special events as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma or GED equivalency. Bachelor’s degree in music preferred.
Skills
Minimum one year experience in music instruction.
Demonstrated Classroom management skills.
Demonstrated success with private and group lessons.
Must be a person of high integrity, and willing to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army
Leadership skills, problem solving capabilities, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional manner while interacting with Kroc employees, guests and the general public.
Excellent organization skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
Must have ability to empathize, communicate and work with a variety of age groups, children, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
Required to pass a background history check.

Physical Requirements
The ability to remain at a keyboard for periods of up to two hours with minimal interruption.
The ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to operate under stressful working conditions in a rapidly changing work environment with multiple priorities is required.
To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform the essential duties with or without accommodation.
