The ArtWorks’ program is a unique offering in fine art education, designed to help students feel supported and inspired, and to help each student develop realistic drawing and painting skills and competency in a broad range of mediums over time. We are an established program working with over 900 students weekly. We aim to help students tap into their artistic capability and to reach their own artistic potential. Our positions are part-time, but are year-round and long-term. Paid training to start as soon as possible. Due to the intensive nature of our training process, official transition into trainees’ own classes would likely be mid to late fall, depending on when hiring is complete, but training and alternate hours may be available sooner based on applicants’ availability.
We are currently looking for teachers to fill a variety of teaching days ranging from Monday-Saturday, and available for occasional subbing. New teachers’ permanent hours will begin at approximately 10-15 per week, and will likely include one or two weekdays, approx 2:45-8:30, and a half or full Saturday (either 8:45 – 12:15 or 12:45 -5:30 for half, or 8:45-5:30 for full). Initial pay rate negotiable, dependent on background and performance. Increases in pay rate and bonuses are dependent on performance and time with our organization.
We have found our teachers with the most longevity are people who want some teaching time to balance out their other artistic endeavors. We have teachers who have been here for 5+ years, only working a few days a week, because they have discovered that their time spent in the classroom serves as a great balance to their other creative undertakings.
That being said, as new teachers become comfortable in their classes and are reliably demonstrating that they have assimilated the training, they will be given first opportunity among current staff to add teaching days to their schedules, making them eligible for benefits if working at least 20 hours per week. We offer exceptional benefits for part-time work: Up to $350/mo. paid toward your premium in a Kaiser HMO Health Plan for all employees working 20+ hours/week, available 2 months after permanent hire date (when the training period is complete and teachers are teaching independently in their classes) and 401K plan with 6% match after 11 months of employment.
At least a two-year commitment is mandatory for all teaching positions but we are truly looking to hire people who are ideally interested in a much longer-term permanent position.

All ArtWorks Staff and enrolled ArtWorks families are committed to daily health monitoring for symptoms and fevers before arriving at the studios. Additionally, each student has their temperature taken and is given hand sanitizer before entering their class each day.
All Artworks staff, students, family members and caregivers are required to wear a face mask or cloth face covering at all times when at Artworks (both inside and outside of our studios).
Intensified sanitizing, cleaning, disinfecting and ventilation are now an integral part of our new COVID routine. Teachers are responsible for implementing all safety and cleaning protocols in every class with every student.
Student benches are now spaced 6 feet apart and we have minimized movement among students during classes to only the basic necessities.
We are stepping back and social distance teaching as much as possible, but there are occasional moments when teachers are closer than 6 feet to a student for a short period of time.
We are looking for skilled artists with EXCELLENT REALISTIC drawing and painting skills who love working with children and teens, have significant prior experience doing so, and are interested in teaching children and young adults part-time, LONG TERM. All of our teachers go through extensive training to learn to teach from our curriculum, using our methods and to work as part of our teaching team. Teachers teach in teams of two, and with different teachers on different days, so you must be comfortable in a collaborative working environment.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, an up-beat personality, be very patient, have very strong multi-tasking skills, and enjoy working collaboratively. Strong leadership and organizational skills are critical.
Applicants must have a very strong background in realism as ours is a very structured program using a classical, realistic approach (teaching still life, animals, landscape, portraiture, the figure, and more). Applicants must be adept with the use of pastel, graphite, pen and ink, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and oil paint as all teachers are responsible for teaching all ages and all mediums.
