Join us for a Mexican Independence Day celebration at the Bale Grist Mill
The Napa Open Space District is providing a free community event at the Bale Grist MillĀ celebrating Latino Heritage and Mexican Independence Day. This Latino Heritage day is designed to honor the Rancho History, Maria Sobrantes Bale as a smart business woman of the time, and the current contributions of the Latino community to the Napa Valley. The Latino culture is so vital to the story of the upper Napa Valley during the rancho period and an integral part of the success of St. Helena and Calistoga communities today. Last year, approximately 250 residents and visitors attended Fiesta en el Molino Bale in celebration. This event is educational and entertaining for both children and adults alike. Fiesta en el Molino Bale incorporates bilingual speakers to help interpret the story of the Mill, hands-on activities for children, live Rancho and Mariachi music, dance performances, the Mexican consulate performance el Grito de Independencia, Mexican food provided by local vendors, dignitary speakers and Pomo tribe leaders with blessings, songs and stories. Community organizations participate by setting up engaging booths with information including local emergency services, health awareness, recycling programs, and family assistances.
