Artist Bio:

Jacques Lesec is an artist based out of Napa, California. He specializes in large format sculptures with welded materials, pairing advanced 3D design platforms with emerging manufacturing technologies. A practicing custom-home designer by trade, his works reside between the formal disciplines of Art and Architecture. The novel concepts that result from the influence of both disciplines blend the best of each respective world, dissolving the boundaries between digital and physical form.

Jacques first discovered his love of fabrication as a Master’s student at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), where he apprenticed for kinetic artist Patrick Shearn while earning his architectural degree. He received his BA from UCLA in 2008 and is currently pursuing his architecture license.

Description of artwork:

Standing over 25’ tall, “Full Metal Poppy” is a reconceptualization of organic form. The piece features a sketch-like quality that peals apart the flower’s anatomy giving a solid appearance from some vantage points and an ephemeral elusiveness from others.

Programmable LED lights reinforce this perceptual reading by tracing the outlines of the vase and flower petals with a glowing geometric wireframe.
