Open Position:

The position of Administrative Assistant is open at the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum in St. Helena, CA. The position will work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director in order to fulfill the museum’s mission “to connect human experiences with the works and times of Robert Louis Stevenson.”

Primary Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

Bookkeeping, Retail Management, Office Management, Front of House/Receptionist duties, Providing Tours of the Museum, Volunteer Management, Database Management, assisting the Museum’s Executive Director

Hours: Twenty (20) hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday, Noon to 4 P.M.
Compensation: $18.00 per hour

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 College degree (preferred) or equivalent education and/or demonstratable experience
 Minimum 2 years of administrative experience
 Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Grasp of technology and computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft
Office Suite, QuickBooks, Database Management, and Social Media
 Experience working with budgets and managing finances
 Ability to meet deadlines and multitask while working under pressure
 Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
 Highly organized and efficient with careful attention to detail
 Ability to organize schedules
 Track retail sales, inventory, and donations
 Excellent interpersonal skills
 Work effectively in a group and independently – proactive
 Follow directions and bring new ideas to the table
 Represent the RLS Museum to persons outside the organization
 An outgoing personality that is also friendly, courteous, and flexible

The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is a very small non-profit organization established in 1969. The small staff and board work closely together as a team to fulfill our mission and create our
vision of the museum being “a community resource and a catalyst for connecting contemporary life with literature and the works of Robert Louis Stevenson." An interest in history and
literature is very important as you will be part of the effort to share the life and times of RLS with the community.

Working Conditions:
This position requires extended periods of speaking, sitting, standing, and lifting. It also requires occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, pushing and pulling, and the ability to
regularly lift to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Likewise, this position requires a high level of proficiency in both verbal and written communication skills. The person must be able to read, listen and speak to groups in a public setting.
