RECEPTION: Friday, May 1, 2020, 7-9 p.m.

The Artery, home of the Artists’ Cooperative of Davis, has sponsored the California Clay Competition since 1990 to give California ceramic artists an opportunity to exhibit their work during the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art.

ELIGIBILITY:  The competition is open to all artists residing in California. Works accepted must be for sale, available for the duration of the exhibit and made within the last two years. Works may be functional or sculptural.

MEDIUM & SIZE:  Clay must be the primary medium. Works may be functional or sculptural. Assembled works must fit through a standard doorframe and weigh no more than can easily be handled by two people. All artwork must be presented and ready for display. Wall pieces must include all mounting hardware; wire and/or cleats preferred.

AWARDS:  Monetary and gift awards will be announced at the opening reception.

COMMISSIONS:  The Artery will retain a 50% commission on all sales resulting from the exhibition.

Juror: Scott Parady got his MFA from Penn State University and currently is a ceramics professor at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, CA. Most of the works that Parady creates is hand built by pinching clay while working slowly on a potter’s wheel as opposed to the traditional throwing method. He, then, fires the work in his Anagama wood fire kiln. Parady began this hand-building technique because he started to dig his own clay in the late 1990’s.

ENTRY PROCEDURE & FEE:  Entries will be processed through our website at

www.theartery.net/ccc.html.  A $15 application fee for each piece entered. No minimum or maximum limit on the number of entries per artist.
