Kala Art Institute Class: Introduction to Stencil and Spray Paint with E. Oscar Maynard

Dates: February 7th, 14th, & 21st (Saturdays), 1:00pm – 5:00pm

Location: Kala Art Institute, 1060 Heinz Avenue, Berkeley, California

Tuition: $265.

This class explores stencil and spray paint as flexible printmaking practices. Stencil is part of a rich tradition of street art and graffiti, and it is a beautiful medium for paper, fabric, wood and more. Students will learn to design and print stenciled images using both free-hand drawings, and photoshopped images. Great for beginners and experienced artists.

Elizabeth “Oscar” Maynard has a self-designed B.A. in Visual Art, Psychology, and Gender Studies from Antioch College.  They have an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute in Printmaking.  Their work has been shown at Somarts, Mission Cultural Center, and in a number of the National Queer Arts Festival shows.  They are a proud Queer Cultural Center Grantee for a 2014 show called Breaking Code, looking at mental health and madness through a queer lens. They are an intern and educator at Kala Art Institute.  In their spare time they nerd out about gender, feed wild animals in local parks, carve gourd luminaries, and make new things from the Southern Living magazine recipes section.
