The Department of Cultural Services, in partnership with the Marin Cultural Association, has five essential functions: operating the Marin Center facilities and campus as rental venues, programming a diverse performance series and the visual arts galleries, overseeing the Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center docent tour program, and producing the award-winning Marin County Fair. The Department and the Marin Cultural Association support art and culture in Marin County, increasing participation, advancing collaboration, and optimizing resources to create greater access to the arts for all Marin County residents regardless of age, race, ability, or means.

As the major performing arts, events center, and fairgrounds in Marin County, Marin Center serves the community by presenting and expanding a variety of multi-cultural theater presentations, affordable rental venues, and professional expertise. Bringing art, music, dance, and performance of all kinds to audiences around the Bay, attendees also enjoy visiting the beautiful Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium inspired by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

The Department of Cultural Services programs and operates the Marin Center, a 20-acre campus of indoor and outdoor venues that hosts hundreds of events each year spread across the 2000-seat Veterans Memorial Auditorium, 315-seat Showcase Theatre, 22,500 sq. ft. Exhibit Hall, Fairgrounds, Lagoon Park, and a variety of meeting rooms. These events include a range of performances by local arts groups and national touring acts, art and music festivals, trade shows, corporate banquets, and the 5-day Marin County Fair, attended by more than 100,000 people each year. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Cultural Services, the Events Operations Manager plays a key role in the execution of these events, overseeing pre-event planning, compliance with safety and health laws, supervision of events staff and volunteers, coordination with County departments, and working selected events to ensure smooth operations. The Events Operations Manager supervises a team of regular, temporary, and volunteer staff and takes an active role in performance management, coaching and staff/team development.

The ideal candidate has experience operating an events center with multiple venues and has managed a team of regular, contingent, and volunteer staff. They are well-versed in all aspects of event production and are able to bring industry best practices and efficiencies to the table. They enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have a positive attitude, and are equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team. The Events Operations Manager has great attention to detail, while never losing site of the big picture. In addition, they are able to work well with a wide variety of people ranging from County employees to artists to event producers to volunteers and the public-at-large and will share an interest in the Department’s continued work to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in the arts.
