Dance Research Fellowship important dates

Application Deadline:  May 15, 2022
Notification:  June 20, 2022
Award Period:  July 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022

Application:  A complete application consists of three parts: the application form, a letter of recommendation, and a project proposal (including an abbreviated C.V.).  The project proposal must  include a general description or abstract of the research project, its title and format, and the applicant’s contact details. Applicants should identify specific material(s) that will be consulted during the desired dates of the fellowship period.

Successful applications will also include an in-depth explanation of how collections existing exclusively at the Jerome Robbins Dance Division are essential to the progress and completion of the research project. The proposal and C.V. should be no longer than 5-pages in length.

Completed applications should be submitted no later than May 15, 2022, through The New York Public Library’s Fellowship Portal, where applicants are invited to create an account and upload a C.V. and then apply for the Dance Research Fellowship specifically.

Previous Dance Research Fellows are not eligible to apply.

Fellowship Announcement: The awarding of the fellowships will be announced on June 20, 2022.  Fellowship recipients and their research projects will be acknowledged on The New York Public Library website and in Library publicity.

Residency: Fellows must take up residency between July 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.  Fellows are not expected to be in continuous residence for the duration of the fellowship award period, but must provide evidence of progress during mandatory check-in points throughout the residency.

Fellowship Symposium: In response to the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic the 2023 symposium will be presented in hybrid form. Each fellow will be required to participate in a symposium on January 27, 2023, where they will deliver a presentation on the outcome of their research and will also prerecord a version of their presentation for dissemination online.  Applications for practice-oriented research are welcomed; in these cases, the final presentation may take the form of a performance in lieu of a paper.

The 2022-23 Dance Research Fellowship and Symposium is generously supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
