Position: Art Consultant

Location: Brown Street Gallery (Napa)

Type: Part-Time

Hourly Rate: $40.00

Hours: Up to 55 hours available

Start Date: flexible

About Us:

Brown Street Gallery is a vibrant and inclusive art gallery dedicated to showcasing the talents of adults with intellectual disabilities. Our goal is to create a space where art transcends barriers, allowing our artists to express themselves freely and gain recognition for their creativity. Located on Brown St. in Napa, in partnership with the Arts Council Napa Valley, we are committed to enriching the local art scene while fostering a supportive community for our artists and staff.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Art Consultant to provide expertise on gallery updates, reception planning, and artwork display and placement. This role involves curating art exhibitions, advising on art sales and purchases, and developing programs that engage our artists and the community. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for the transformative power of art and a commitment to promoting inclusivity within the art world.

Responsibilities:

  • Curate and manage art exhibitions, ensuring a diverse representation of styles and themes.
  • Develop and implement engaging art programs and workshops for our artists and the community.
  • Assist/ attend 6 art receptions and promote art sales
  • Foster relationships with local businesses, schools, and organizations to promote our gallery and its mission.
  • Collaborate with gallery staff, director, and artists to create a supportive and dynamic work environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience and passion as an Art Consultant, Curator, or similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, or a related field (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of the art market and trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Must be able to provide a completed W-9 form upon hiring.
