Chalk Hill Artist Residency

Chalk Hill Artist Residency is a unique opportunity for artists across mediums to work and stay at the beautiful Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard. The program is located in Sonoma County, an hour and a half north of San Francisco. Talented artists from a diverse range of abilities and geographical locations are able to find the space and time needed to pursue creative work. Chalk Hill Artist Residency offers the use of the artist house, studio space, and access to the ranch property. The property’s redwood-covered hills, hiking trails, vineyards, and private access to the Russian River are sources of inspiration for residents.

Residence Overview

Residency periods are between 2 and 8 weeks depending on the artist’s availability.

Artists may reapply for residency every 2 years.

The Residency’s 1925 rustic farmhouse has three bedrooms, one shared bathroom, a kitchen, and a shared living space.

Artists are financially responsible for their food. Grocery stores are located in Windsor and Healdsburg, both a 15-minute drive from the Residency.

Studio spaces are in a repurposed, rustic barn near the artist house.

The residence does not have internet access. Internet is available at our office a short walk away.

Residents must supply their own art materials.

Transportation to and from the Ranch is the responsibility of the artist.

Sonoma County weather is beautiful year-round, but winter can be cold and rainy.

Chalk Hill Residency supports artists living with disabilities and mental health challenges.
